*UPDATE ON #ENDSARS*

*UPDATE ON #ENDSARS*

ADDRESS TO THE NATION BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE ENDSARS PROTESTS, 22ND OCTOBER, 2020

Fellow Nigerians,

It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.

2. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well - intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

3. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.

4. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.

5. As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.

6. On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.

7. Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.

8. The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.

9. All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.

10. The spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media in particular, that this government is oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens is a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into unfair judgement and disruptive behaviour.

11. On the contrary, both our deeds and words have shown how committed this administration has been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

12. Government has put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society.  These included our broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youths and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Survival Fund, through which government is:

a. paying three months salaries of the staff of 100,000 micro, small - and medium - enterprises,
b. paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the Corporate Affairs Commission,
c. giving a grant of N30,000 to 100,000 artisans; and
d. guaranteeing market for the products of traders.

13. These are in addition to many other initiatives such as;
a. Farmermoni,
b. Tradermoni,
c. Marketmoni,
d. N-Power,
e. N-Tech and
f. N-Agro.

14. No Nigerian Government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.

15. With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.

16. In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.

17. Let me at this point reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.

18. We will continue to improve good governance and our democratic process, including through sustained engagement.

19. We shall continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected.

20. But remember that government also has the obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as the right of citizens to go about their daily businesses freely and protected from acts of violence.

21. To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.

22. In the circumstances, I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.

23. For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.

24. I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.

25. And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

26. I would like to thank those state Governors, traditional and religious leaders who have appealed for calm and restraint. I also thank youth leaders who have restrained their followers from taking the law into their hands.

27. This government respects and will continue to respect all the democratic rights and civil liberties of the people, but it will not allow anybody or groups to disrupt the peace of our nation.

Thank you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2020 NECO postpones exam over #EndSARS protests

BREAKING: NECO postpones exam over #EndSARS protests

The National Examination Council postponed Paper I Computer Studies Practical’s scheduled for

Monday, October 19, 2020, until November 16

This was contained in a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division, NECO, Azeez Sani, on Sunday.

Sani said the decision was taken because of the ongoing #ENDSARS protests, affecting the human and vehicular movement.

He explained that the protest had affected the supply of examination materials.

The statement read, “This is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained to reschedule the Paper I Computer Studies Practical’s earlier scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020, 10 am to 1 pm. The examination of this paper will now hold on Monday 16 November 2020, 10 am-1 pm.

”This unforeseen incident has been caused by the ENDSARS protest that blocked the free movement of transport at the City entrance gate Benin.

“The NECO delivery truck had left its take-off point well in advance two days earlier to deliver examination materials to some states and has been held up in the blockage since then.

“The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public that the affected examination materials have been retrieved intact and are in the custody of NECO’s vault.

”While regretting any inconveniences this rescheduling may cause our esteemed stakeholders, the Council has however taken this decision in order to maintain the integrity and security of its examinations procedures for seamless conduct of the Council’s examination.”

FG Sets New Guidelines For Reopening of Schools

FG Sets New Guidelines For Reopening of Schools

FG Sets New Guidelines For Reopening of Schools

The Federal Government on Thursday released fresh guidelines for the reopening of schools in the country.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, made this known during a briefing in Abuja.

Schools in the country had been shut for more than four months as part of measures to curb the spread of the novel disease.

But the PTF had okayed the reopening of schools in August with some subnational already reopening primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in their states.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that FG ordered all Unity Schools in the country to resume with effect from October 12.

Giving an update on Thursday, Aliyu said, “The Federal Ministry of Education, the PTF and the NCDC (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control) have developed guidelines to ensure schools can reopen, minimise the risk of transmission and continue to operate safely.

“Schools and educational bodies that plan to reopen must have detailed communication protocols that include parents, school health teams, school authorities and local (and) state officials.

“They must also have a system for providing regular updates for parents, staff and relevant authorities as well as communicate changes to procedures effectively and clearly as well as taking effective measures to understand how COVID-19 can spread and how to mitigate the spread in line with official guidelines.

“Specifically, school authorities have the responsibilities to ensure that everyone gaining access to their schools is screened properly, is wearing a mask and sanitising their hands.

“Boarding schools must have identified areas for screening and putting positive students aside.

“There must be access to running water and handwashing facilities.

“The health staff, particularly in boarding schools, must be trained and provided with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

“There must be appropriate waste management systems.

“Health facilities that are within the schools that serve the schools should have the ability to cater for an outbreak and a response protocol must be in place for these schools for students who test positive. In this regard, it is important to involve their parents and make sure that parents have signed consent forms in advance.

“Schools should also work in synergy with the local government rapid response teams and collaborate with the state ministries of health on planning, implementation and reopening of schools.

“We encourage schools to consider creative solutions to abide by these guidelines.”

On his part, the PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha, stressed that states have the responsibility to ensure the safe reopening of schools.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said, “The Federal Government has just 105 schools all over the nation that are reopening. Over 18,000 schools do not belong to the Federal Government; they belong to states and private proprietors.

“The control of schools in the state, particularly primary and secondary schools, is the responsibility of the state government. They are supposed to ensure compliance.

“Different states fixed different dates for the reopening of schools. So, the responsibility of ensuring that these schools comply with the guidelines is vested on state and local government authorities and that we expect they will do.”

Federal Government Faults ASUU's Request For More Funds, Calls For Cooperation To End Strike

Federal Government Faults ASUU's Request For More Funds, Calls For Cooperation To End Strike

The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has faulted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) request for more funds. He said the union’s fondness for embarking on industrial actions was pushing students to study abroad and to private universities.

Nwajiuba stated this in Abuja on Wednesday, adding that the union’s claim that the education sector was not adequately funded is not tenable because no sector in the country was getting enough money.

According to him, N671.1bn was earmarked for education in the 2020 budget and the bulk of the education budget was being used to pay 10,500 professors, out of the 71,000 lecturers in Nigeria. The Education Minister further admonished ASUU to cooperate with the government and other Nigerians to fix the economy.

Reacting to the minister’s statement that the bulk of the education budget was being used to pay professors, ASUU's national president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi told the Minister to try ignorance if he thought education was too expensive.

While denying allegations that lecturers were spending money meant for others, Prof. Ogunyemi berated the minister for condemning the union’s strike, adding that Nigerian lecturers are the least paid in the whole world.

In his words, the ASUU President said “The truth is that everywhere you have seen innovation, invention and development, they invested in education and still investing in education. If any government official thinks that because they are investing in education, they should make life difficult for university lecturers, then they are preparing the ground for the collapse of the country,”

The Federal Government had earlier directed all educational institutions to resume on as the spread of COVID-19, which necessitated the shutting down of the schools had reduced. However, the union through its Chairman, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi has replied that members would not resume because they could not work on an empty stomach.

Recall that the union began an indefinite strike on March 23 following their disagreement with the Federal Government over non-implementation of 2009 agreements and opposition to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), which government insisted all workers must adopt.

NYSC Debunks Rumor on Camp Reopening

NYSC Debunks Rumor on Camp Reopening

The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to rumor circulating on social media about camp reopening.

The said release states that arising from a purported meeting, Orientation course shall resume 27th October 2020, with Batch “A” Stream 2, which it adds has further been subdivided into Batches “A” and “B”.

NYSC

Management hereby conveys that the news release is fake. Prospective Corps Members and the public are therefore enjoined to kindly disregard the news in its entirety.

Management has been working with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in order to ensure the reopening of NYSC Orientation camps nationwide, which the PTF had earlier tied to the resumption of educational institutions in the country.

It is imperative to state that the Scheme has ensured that all the COVID-19 safety protocols incidental to safe hosting of Orientation programmes are in place in all its 37 Orientation camps.

Note also that some precautionary safety measures already adopted by the Scheme had earned it the commendation of the PTF.

While the NYSC sincerely appreciates the patience so far shown by the PCMs who have waited for over six months to be called-up for participation in the Scheme, it equally empathizes with them over the unanticipated disruption of their programmes, resulting from COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the Corps is highly optimistic that the Federal Government, through the PTF will soon give approval for the full resumption of camping.

Meanwhile, continue to stay safe and stay tuned to NYSC’s Traditional and New media platforms for authentic information.

Thank you.

How You Can Get Prepared For Exams and Admission.

How You Can Get Prepared For Exams and Admission.

With Post-utme and admission processing on its way, examlegits had organized some tips that will get you prepared for your school of choice post-utme & admission.

Tips on How To Get Prepared for Post-utme & Admission

  • #1 – Know Yourself and The School You Choose: Both words might sounds contrary to each other because your answer (if i guess) will simply be ‘Oh Yes! I know my Name and Of Course i choose University of Tuham as my School so i think i also knew the school i choose!
Knowing Yourself simply means knowing your Jamb score to target the school you will choose so as to avoid the mistake of making a wrong choice. For example if your score is 180, you should made thorough Research on the school you choose/about to change to concerning their jamb cut-off mark in the previous years and this current year. Some University cut-off marks can be found at the awanetmobile Educative apps store.
  • #2 – Stay Updated: After #1, the next thing for you is to stay updated to latest information concerning your school of choice. This can be done by using Google Search Engine or adding the official website of your school of choice to your bookmark. You can also join an educative forum like to meet other like-minded aspirants.

  • #3 – Get Your Documents Ready: The word ‘documents’ doesn’t mean only your O level and Jamb Result although they form part of it, there are some other documents you should also have at your disposal in which you’re going to need during your time of admission. For a full list of them, Read 7 Best documents to have before gainning admission.

  • #4 Read, Read and Read: “When the examination line is drawn, the students hope for the best but must prepare for the worst” Though over-reading is not advisable as it might cause congestion in the brain in which there may be difficulty in retainning what one read, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read at all.
Remember the more you read, the more you learn and the more you learn, the easier it becomes.
